Cargo and traffic
Focus on solutions, flexibility and service are key words for the Port of Skagen in describing the manner in which we wish to act towards our customers. Combined with a large capacity, easy access to the port and a central position in Northern Europe, these features make the Port of Skagen an ideal partner concerning handling of goods.
In the Port of Skagen you will find a complete value chain of companies dealing with goods that handle storing, stevedoring, bunkering and transport. We have the right setting to offer our facilities to a wide range of companies that either want to establish themselves at the Port of Skagen or want to load or unload their goods via the port.
The commodity groups handled include:
- Bulk such as fishmeal, stone and gravel
- Project cargoes
- Frozen cargo that are unloaded / loaded directly from reefers to cold stores near the quay side
- Floating bulk such as fish oil and gasoil. The Port of Skagen has tank facilities with direct connections from the quay for both these products
Regular container route
Companies can also benefit from the regular container route with weekly departures via the shipping company MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company). Skagen Stevedore A/S – a subsidiary of the FF Skagen group – has established and is running the container terminal. They have invested in a mobile container crane with a lifting capacity of up to 125 tons and a swing radius of 51 metres.
The container activity is established on the existing harbour area and will be moved to stage 3 when the expansion has been carried out. Among other things, stage 3 comprises an expansion of the harbour area of approximately 190,000 m2 and 930 m new quay area. The new area is expected to be ready for use during 2020.
